Breda: network-wide traffic management for smooth and safe traffic flow
Residents of Breda love their city and so do visitors. The city is eager to retain and further enhance this reputation. Traffic lights and DRIPs
In Breda, traffic light controllers (TLCs) on intersections and dynamic route information panels (DRIPs) are all operated from the traffic management platform MobiMaestro. If travel times rise beyond a certain threshold on any section, the traffic controller can simply adjust the traffic lights from the control center, or use the DRIPs to guide traffic to alternative routes. Traffic light or DRIP outages are received directly in MobiMaestro, so that they can be resolved quickly.
The road network within and around the city
MobiMaestro also connects Breda’s traffic controllers with the Rijkswaterstaat traffic control center that manages the highways around the city. Through this links, they have an overview of the situation on the highways around Breda, including the status of traffic lights and DRIPs controlled by Rijkswaterstaat. This insight, provided by MobiMaestro’s DVM-Exchange module, allows Breda to respond quickly to any changes on the roads both within and around the city.
Sharing traffic information with third parties
With MobiMaestro, Breda’s Traffic Department can easily make information on TLCs and DRIPs available to third parties. Thus contractors, consultancy agencies and other departments of the city can be given access so that they can adjust their own activities to the current traffic situation, or use this information for research or other purposes.
