MobiMaestro: Crowd management

Multimodal traffic management covers all types of traffic, including pedestrians, particularly large crowds or at very busy locations, for example during national holidays such as King’s Day, or during sports events, manifestations, or festivals. The
traffic management platform MobiMaestro helps traffic managers manage crowds.

Amsterdam: managing pedestrians at hotspots

Traffic managers in Amsterdam have almost real-time insight into the density of pedestrian traffic at hotspots in the city thanks to a series of digital sources. By connecting these sources to MobiMaestro, Amsterdam can activate a range of guidance instruments, either automatically or manually, ranging from informing people via digital information panels to imposing one-way traffic to closing streets entirely.

MobiMaestro can configure combinations of such measures in traffic control scenarios. Thus a city could for example create a scenario that, in one go, configures traffic lights, information panels and other roadside equipment for King’s Day. Traffic managers can activate such traffic control scenarios at the simple press of a button.

Responding quickly to incidents

MobiMaestro also plays an important role in incident management in Amsterdam. On the basis of information from the route planner app Waze, MobiMaestro issues warnings to the traffic manager concerning incidents. The information provided includes the location of the cameras in the city that can be selected to access images of the incident. The traffic manager can then immediately adjust traffic lights and provide route information to road users in the city. In the near future, MobiMaestro will also begin using information from other data sources to identify and deal with incidents.
