MobiMaestro: Flexible
traffic management for events, road works, and traffic diversions

Scenarios in MobiMaestro are useful tools for traffic management during recurring events. Road managers simply activate the right scenario, and traffic light controllers, digital information panels, and other roadside equipment are configured at once in a way that is perfectly suited for the event.

In addition, MobiMaestro offers all the functionality you need for unique, one-off events such as large-scale road works.

The annual Tilburg Fair

The center of Tilburg is the scene annually of the largest fair of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. During this ten-day event, traffic is diverted around the location of the fair. The City uses finely tuned scenarios in MobiMaestro to do this. These scenarios divert the traffic during the fair and ensure there is constant optimal traffic flow.

Diversions during large-scale road works

The City of Tilburg has decided to the Cityring, the ring road around the center, into a Parkring – a large-scale project. The intended outcome is 50 percent less motorized traffic in the city center, mainly by banning ‘unnecessary’ traffic that can also travel around the center.

The project will involve a series of road closures and diversions. These road works are a one-off event, but they will take a considerable amount of time. The City of Tilburg is using MobiMaestro for the diversions and references. The road managers will first of all analyze the situation: what will the impact on traffic be? How large are the expected crowd sizes? How can we divert the traffic? This analysis will then result in a concrete traffic management plan.

Positive effects for visitors and residents

The road managers will then adjust the scenarios and configurations of the traffic installations in MobiMaestro according to this plan. They do this using modules such as MobiMaestro-NEMO (network management), MobiMaestro VINCE (TLCs), MobiMaestro-PAGE (parking guidance), and MobiMaestro-DISPLAY (DRIPs). The process takes a bit of time, but the effort is more than outweighed by the positive effects this has for visitors and residents of the city.

Mark Clijsen, traffic management technology and public lighting consultant for the City of Tilburg, talks about the use of MobiMaestro during events and large-scale road works.
