Bas’s story

Growth and development

“I’m a developer and I like to stay close to the technology side of things. At Technolution, I have the opportunity to develop myself broadly. They give me space to learn new technologies, languages, and frameworks. It’s knowledge I like to transmit to others in turn. I told them during my interview that I wanted to become lead developer. So let’s make that happen, that’s what they said in reply. And they do.”

Team and atmosphere

“Process in our team is streamlined, so that I can focus on what I like to do. People are always happy to answer any questions I have. I felt at home fast enough; I meet a few colleagues to game in the weekend from time to time. The whole group went out to dinner to celebrate my permanent contract. I was looking for a place to call my homebase, and I’ve found it. I can see myself still here in ten years.”

Technology

“For me, software development is a fascinating puzzle. I want to assemble all the pieces in the right place. For example, by getting acquainted with a new communication protocol and integrating it with an existing application. That’s the kind of work I like to do. Or to understand and modernize old code that has some bearing on new modules. The challenge is not to try and solve everything at once.”

Are you ready for progress as a Software Engineer?

His project

“I’m a developer in the MobiMaestro team, our traffic management platform. At the moment I’m working on visualization of intersections in Stockholm, including 450 roadside devices. And I was asked to work on a client’s set of requirements for a large tender, asking questions: are they realistic? Are there any potential problems? I’d just starting working for Technolution when this came along. Really cool to get that kind of trust.”

Impact on society

“The things I do and learn here are going to end up somewhere in the real world. In Amsterdam, traffic managers are working with new MobiMaestro displays thanks to an update that I programmed. MobiMaestro is helping to smooth the flow of traffic in the Netherlands, the Nordics and in America. The thing I’m building at the moment will soon be running in Stockholm to manage traffic control equipment at intersections. This is what motivates me and gets me up in the morning.”
